Sivaji releasing on June 15
Rajinikanth-starrer "Sivaji The Boss" is releasing on June 15, it is formally announced. The film was to have been released on May 31. Producer M.S. Guhan from AVM Studios said the release of the eagerly awaited film is being postponed to June 15 due to some "technical" difficulties and other minor issues. AVM Studios decided to postpone the release date yet again to ease the pressure on them, he added.
Guhan said AVM Studios has released advertisements in newspapers announcing the new release date (June 15). He said the film was given a 'U' certificate by the Censor Boar a couple of days ago. He confirmed that the film was screened for Censor Board officials at an AVM preview theatre, a regular rental facility approved by the Board. Of course, AVM has taken all possible precautions against piracy.
According to him, tight security has been made at the labs. "Once we start printing the copies, they will be in our custody until the release date".
It was expected that the mega movie would hit the screens on April 14 (Tamil New Year's Day). The release had to be postponed as graphic work was incomplete. Later, AVM had in a press release announced that the film would be out on May 31. Following this announcement, the film was screened for the Censor Board officials who cleared it "with a few visual and dialogue cuts".
Meanwhile, on May 16, the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners' Association adopted a resolution to the effect that the earnings would be shared with the producers on a 60-40 percentage basis for the first week, 55-45 for the second week and 50-50 from the third week for all films releasing after May 16, including "Sivaji".
Guhan, announcing the June 15 release, said AVM opened business for the film only on May 17 after things were finalized. Chennai City distribution rights were sold to Abhirami Ramanathan and Kovai rights to Tiruppur Subramani. The bids for the other areas are being processed.
The film, directed by Shankar, was in the making for over a year. Playing opposite Rajinikanth is Shreya. The cast includes Suman, Manivannan and Raghuvaran.
