Priyanka replaces Urmila

Priyanka Chopra has replaced Urmila in of the Hindi adaptation of the legendary opera Carmen called Chamki Chameli. Shyam Benegal will direct the film and Sanjay Gupta will produce it. A R Rahman would be scoring the music. Kareena Kapoor had turned down this role, then Urmila was selected. Now Urmila too has opted out. Since Urmila has left the film, Sanjay Gupta is also doing some changes in casting. Earlier Jimmy Shergill was to play the role of jealous carmen/chamki. But now Gupta is looking for a replacement for Jimmy.

Gupta feels that Priyanka is the best fit for this role. Earlier Priyanka Chopra and Gupta had problems while working for the film Musafir. Priyanka even opted out of the film then. But today Sanjay Gupta is very positive and he says, "That was then, so much has changed since Musafir. I've changed. So has Priyanka. The past is done with. We're now looking at working together and we're going to make it rock."
