No time for Malayalam - Nayantara

It looks as if Malayalam film industry has not yet come to terms with the fact that it will be a long time before Nayantara returns to work in the language. On Diwali, three films starring her were released in Tamil.

She recently completed a film in Telugu with Nagarjuna.

But she still stays away from Malayalam. Until now, her standard reason was- no callsheets. For the first time, she explains why she never has any callsheets to spare for Malayalam films.

"The problem with Malayalam films is- if they're going to begin a film in December, they'd approach you for dates only in the last week of September. That's why most of the time I don't have callsheets to spare for Malayalam films," she says.

Are you interested in starring in heroine-oriented subjects?

Of course I'm interested in working in such films. Unfortunately, I didn't get such subjects until now. In most films, heroines have nothing much to do other than cling to the hero. I think it's a safe option. Frankly, I don't know if heroine-oriented films have box office appeal.

There are talks that you had lost film offers in Tamil because Simbu had advised you to not accept them?

Simbu was the director and co-star of my film. He also is a good friend. That's all there is. Let me tell you something. I have a manager who handles my callsheets.
