Mammootty for Rajya Sabha?

The CPI (M) is likely to nominate Mammootty, the superstar of Malayalam to the Rajya Sabha. Two Rajya Sabha seats are coming up from Kerala with K.K.Rajesh, SFI, All India General Secretary is the front runner for one seat while the other is likely to go to a person from the cultural field.

Mammootty has been a steadfast CPI (M) sympathizer from his college days at Law College in Kochi. Though he has not been actively involved in day-to-day politics, he head �Kairali TV� the CPI (M) run channel in Kerala.

Due to Mammootty�s programming skills and the way he marketed the channel, �Kairali� has turned profitable and has also recently launched �Peoples�, a news channel. Mammootty has also not been identified with any of the groups in the party.

When V.S.Achutanandan requested him not to endorse Coco-Cola two years back, the actor willingly agreed, as the party was involved in the Plachimada agitation against the Cola giant. Pinarai Vijayan the CPI (M) State Secretary is also in favour of Mammootty.

But will the heartthrob of millions of Malayalees all over the world take up this new post at a time when he rules the Malayalam film industry?
