Baabul in London before India
Looks like London has become the latest launching pad for Bollywood films. The Baabul team on Friday launched their film ahead of its December 8 release.
Why London, you ask? Hear it from the Baabul (father) himself: "Our films are being viewed by audiences outside India in a very large majority. We feel it is important because London has a large concentration of people who watch our films and also the media."
"Promoting our film through your good offices gives us an entry into areas which are not traditional per se," he added.
Baabul, which marks the 50th year of BR films is an emotional drama with widow remarriage as its theme. The film brings together the Baaghban pair of Bachchan and Hema Malini with Salman Khan as the son.
Rani Mukherjee plays the main lead and John Abraham is the friend who steps in when tragedy strikes.
"I wanted someone who is a contrast to Salman in the film. Salman is a rich man's son, crazy about his father and a bit yuppy. In comparison to him, I needed someone quieter and one who had the look of a singer. And I don't think anyone fits the role more than John," Ravi Chopra, director of Baabul said.
Actor John Abraham gave his version of his role in Baabul: "It is the quintessential Bollywood clean boy, something I haven't done earlier."
"Films like Paap and Garam Masala catered to teenage audience and this time, it's a clean film, a family film. We are looking at the overseas audience," Abraham added.
The film's music, composed by Aadesh Srivastava, also sees Big B flex his vocal cords for two tracks including the title track for which a special music video has also been shot. And you can be sure to hear that one at most weddings this season.
