Ash, Abhishek in Varanasi

It has the rumour mills spinning yarns on their much talked-about romance and a possible walk down the aisle. Aishwarya Rai is with the entire Bachchan family including Abhishek, in Varanasi for what the family calls are �special pujas�.

TIMES NOW tracked the Bachchans, Aishwarya and Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh as they flew to Varanasi on a chartered flight from Delhi late last evening night.

At 2 am on Monday morning (November 27), they went to the Kashi Viswanath temple in the city and then to the Sankat Mochan temple. Sources close to the family say the prayers are to iron out a mismatch in Abhishek and Aishwarya's horoscopes - a special �Mangal Dosh� puja for Aishwarya who is a manglik .

Though the jury may be out on whether the puja will lead to a marriage, one thing is certain: Ash's presence at a Bachchan family puja proves that she is very much an important part of Abhishek's life.

The official line, however, is that the Bachchans are in Varanasi to perform a Puja to mark family patriarch Harivanshrai's 99th birth anniversary.

Meanwhile, the channel spoke to Pandit Shrikant - the chief priest at the Sankatmochan Temple who undertook the ceremony. Shrikant gave details about the specific rituals performed by the family, however he remained circumspect about what their aim had been.

�They did a darshan of mangla arti, and then performed rudrabhishek. The prayers were conducted by eleven brahmins. These prayers help devotees fulfill whatever wishes they have. But whatever these wishes, are only they know,� he said, adding that it was not the first time that Amitabh Bachchan had come to the temple, but that Monday�s visit was planned in advance and had gone off well.
