Lal Jose even from his debut days took chances to surprise everyone. He is the one who tried a comic story with Mammootty for his debut film. Then he was with Dileep making him a thief in Meesa Madhavan and a fetish character in Chandhupottu, with great success.
And in the last year he created another box-office wonder with the younger heroes of Malluwood in Classmates.
And for this monsoon he has just completed one that is mostly shot in the Arabian Gulf counties. Titled Arabikatha, the film deals with the problems faced by Pravasi Malayalis and their fight for justice.
The film has Sreenivasan, once again donning the lead, this time as Cuba Mukundan, a staunch leftist who was forced to work in Dubai due to his problematic surroundings.
He is the son of Society Gopalan, who is an old Gandhian. Gopalan, a social activist who launched communism to the village of Chemmanur and built the party with ideals and attitudes always thought of the well being of his villagers .His only son groomed better than him thinking only about his party. He was a loyal crusader who lived for his ideals with sincerity.
As usual with the present day ideologists, Mukundan also was cornered in the party and was sidelined following which he was forced to leave his home land. Mukundan who never ever have thought to go out of his country was then destined to seek a job in Dubai, which opened his heart to people and their living which he never has thought of.
The labor camps in Dubai are set as the back drop of the movie. Arabikatha offers a light hearted perspective on the lives of expatriates in Dubai and points out the hardships faced by the immigrants overseas. Once in Dubai, Mukundan finds it extremely hard to live in a condition that he always resisted. He was asked to do things that he never believed. And in the end only person who comes as a solace was a girl who came to work in Dubai from Communist China. Mukundan finds in her someone who shares the same ideals and beliefs as he does.
Arabikatha have a Chinese actress Chang Shu Min, playing the female lead opposite Sreenivasan. The film has scripts by Iqbal Kuttipuram and cinematography by Manoj Pillai. Biji Pal composed the music with lyrics by Anil Pachooran, of which a couple are already chart toppers.
The cast includes Samvritha Sunil, Jagathi Sreekumar, Indrajeet, Jayasurya, Saadiq, Suraaj, Nedumudi Venu and Salim Kumar. Hussain under the banner of Micro Coms produces the film. Arabikatha (The Arabian Tale) was filmed mostly in Dubai in association with Studio Art FZ LLC.
