AMMA to form cricket team

The general body meeting of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) on Sunday decided to form a cricket team to participate in the proposed Celebrity 20:20 cricket tournament. Actors in the Hindi and Telugu movie industries already have their cricket teams.

Announcing this at a media conference in Kochi, AMMA president Innocent and general secretary Mohanlal said that they had come to know about the tournament from director Priyadarshan.

The meeting also decided to enhance the monthly assistance to indigent veteran actors from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 4,000 and increase the number to 81 artistes for the financial assistance.

Actors Kollam, S.K. Pillai, Pala Thankam, Sadhana and make up man Hari would be awarded special membership in the association. As part of its humanitarian activities, AMMA would donate Rs. 1 lakh each to five orphanages.

National award winning actor Salim Kumar did not participate in the meeting owing to the death of his friend. Barring him and Suresh Gopi, all major actors participated in the general body in which Forest Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar, Tamil Nadu MLA Sarathkumar and Padma Sri awardee Jayaram besides National and State film award winning actors were felicitated.
