Abhishek, Aishwarya get engaged

Ending all speculation Amitabh Bachchan has confirmed that Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai got engaged on Sunday evening. The engagement ceremony took place at Aishwarya's Mumbai residence.

The event, attended by family members and close friends of the Bachchan and Rai families, took place between 8.30 pm and 9 pm, hours after Aishwarya and Abhishek returned to Mumbai from New York from the promo of their just-released film 'Guru'.

The Big B said that after the promotional tour of their film 'Guru', Abhishek proposed to Ash in New York. He also said that the entire family is celebrating the moment and though he did not confirm the date of the wedding, he said that the marriage is certainly underway.

Present at the ceremony were close friends Amar Singh, Anil and Tina Ambani. And as the news spread like wildfire, relatives, friends and well-wishers from the film industry flocked to the Bachchan household to congratulate the couple. Actresses Sonali Bendre and Kiron Kher were also present at the occasion.

Ash and Abhishek's engagement comes as no surprise considering the couple have been making several public appearances together and haven't shied away from displaying their affection publicly as well. And till a wedding date is formally announced, the rumour mills will be working overtime for sure.
