Thendral
Film : Thendral
Producer/Banner : Oscar Films
Director - Cinematography : Thangarbachchan
Music : Vidyasagar
Cast : Parthibhan , Uma and Junior Bachan.
This is yet another Thangarbachchans trademark movie. Nalangili (Parthibhan) is a revolutionary novelist who lives life on his own terms. He is always dissatisfied with the society and is happy with his wine and women. Thamarai Selvi (Uma) is an ardent fan of Nalangili right from childhood. Life takes a U turn for Selvi when her mother dies in a fire accident. Orphaned and aimless, she searches for a job and gets innocently acquainted with a broker who takes her to a brothel house where she meets Nalangili. An overwhelmed Selvi loses herself to him and realizes that it was a brothel house when he offers her money for sleeping with her but does not show her disappointment. Selvi escapes from the brothel house and takes up a job in a Cotton Mill. She conceives and is determined to bring up her child and educates her son Aravind (Junior Bachchan). With so many twists and turns in their life, Aravind finally reaches his father.
Parthibhans character is edged as an angry one and his dialogues have a lot punch. He has done full justice to his role. Uma comes as a gentle breeze in the movie. She shines in her soft character role. Junior Bachchan steals the show from everyone with his sterling performance. Director Thangarbachchan work needs to be applauded for his attempt to elevate the standard of todays Tamil Cinema, which has an overdose of masala and commercialization. His symbolic touches add grace to various scenes. An overdose of tear-jerking scenes could have been avoided. Vidyasagars music is worth mentioning. Especially the jail song Thaandavakone, with Vairamuthus lyrics, Pushpavanam Kuppusamys voice and Lawrence dance stands out.
