Marudhu, an orphan is technician in a foreign ship. After 16 years he returns to his native place Tamilnadu. Seema is a chain-smoking Anglo-Indian widow who runs a mess for sailors near the harbour and has a teenage niece Nancy to take care of. He meets Nancy. She is in love with Capt. Mugunthan who has left for the Seas long back. Whenever a ship comes, she runs to the shore in a hope to find her lover, but she is sadly turned down every time. Meanwhile Marudhu and Nancy become close friends after they meet time and again and she tells him of her love for Mugunthan. Marudhu begins to search for the captain and later finds out that the captain is dead after his ship sunk in the Sea. This shocks Nancy. After a while, Marudhu expresses his love for Nancy. Though she first rejects it, she realizes his love for him just in time before Marudhu is all set to leave. She meets him and reciprocates his feelings. When everything goes smooth for them, there is a sudden twist in the film, which leads to the climax of the movie.
Shaam as Marudhu wins everyones admiration, the very first scene when he kisses the sand as a sign of his love toward his home place. He has given an energetic performance throughout the movie Kutty Radhika, as Nancy keeps the spectators throbbing throughout the film by showing a performance mixed with innocence, obstinate and valiant. Arun, as the captain gives a good performance especially when he sends Radhika out of the ship. Unlike his earlier films Karunas as Nandu is quiet and sober. Bandit queen Seema Biswas gives a cool appearance as Nancys sister in law. Senthil, Chinni Jeyanth, pasupathi, Crane Manohar and Abiyari as supporting cast have very small roles to play. Director Jananathan has given a neat and laudable film. Though the film has the same old love triangle story, the director has presented it in a novel way. Camerawork by Ekambaram is commendable. Visuals are exotic. Vidhyasagars music has a song Elelo Elo hummable.
