No other film is the recent past has managed to whip up such a frenzy. This is Shankar at his best. For the first time, he is making a film with new faces alone. Ever since the songs have become a massive hit, people are curious about the film's story. 5 young men and a young girl- with them the story proceeds. An excellent screenplay aids the satyr's flow. These five young men have very diverse interests- one sings very well, the other is an excellent dancer, the third is a guitarist, the fourth is a drums player. How long will it be before they start singing? Their own parents aren't happy about their interests. But, their female friend is ready to encourage their dreams and entices them to reach for the stars. This is the film's story in short. Shankar has supported it with an excellent screenplay. The novelties of the film are too many to be listed here. The most popular song these days among the young crowd is 'Yenakkoru girlfriend venumae'. The song is a bigger hit because its lyrics reflect the exact state of mind of the listeners. Cinematographer Ravi K Chandran has created a computer-generated image of a beautiful girl instead of going to Mumbai and bringing down a model.
The only song without any English words is 'Aley aley'. The song has been shot at Tasmania's lavender gardens. Shankar has used the same techniques that were used in 'Matrix' with 62 cameras to shoot some of the scenes in this song. This is being done in India for the first time. The 'Malarae malarae' song has been shot at the International cricket Stadium, Kochi, in front of thousands of people. Since this is a film about music, Bharathnatyam expert Anitha Rathnam and 'Sapthaswarangal' fame Ramanan are also in the film. Dress designer Arjun Bhasin's costumes have added sheen to the film. Vivek always wanted to act in Shankar's films after having acted in KB's and Manirathnam's films too. In this film, he gets to manage these five boys. Marcobe who had done the graphics and SFX for films like 'Godzilla' and 'Independence Day' has done the SFX for this film. With 'Boys' five young heroes make their debut- Siddharth, Nakul, Bharathi, Sai and Manikandan. Sujatha had written the dialogues for this youthful story. Overall this is wonderful youthful & loveable story watchable by everybody.
