Mohanlal’s Keerthi Chakra
Mohanlal’s big budget film Keerthi Chakra follows Mammootty’s big budget film, Balaram vs Tharadas,. Major Ravi will be the director and writer of this war film shot extensively in Kashmir and Kargil. Shooting starts next April.
Major Javed Hussein is the role played by Mohanlal in Keerthi Chakra. All his recent films show him in a heroic active manner - Vadakkumnathan, Thanmathra, Mahasamudram and now Keerthi Chakra. Is it an indication that he is aiming for the next National Awards? Any one of these characters could very well win him another National Award.
Lal plays a soldier’s role throughout this film, undergoing severe training for 15 days to get into the skin of the character. Other major actors include Jeeva, Biju Menon, Kalabhavan Mani, Jagathy, and Innocent. Nayanthara plays Mohanlal’s devoted wife. Music is by Deepak Dev. A Tamil version with the same cast is also planned.
This is the same Major Ravi who was in the limelight for killing Sivarasan - one of the main convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. Earlier, the Indian President honoured him with Keerthi Chakra for killing seven terrorists. Keerthi Chakra is one of the biggest honors given an Indian; it is second only to Paramveer Chakra. This film is a memoir of his experiences in the battlefield as a Black Cat chief. He had directed a film Punarjani with Mohanlal’s son Pranav as the main protagonist, for which Pranav got the State award.
