Annan Thampi breaks record
Annan Thampi, Mammootty's Vishu release, has fetched an opening record collection of Rs. 2 crores from its four-day run from 75 centres. The movie is likely to break the records, set by Mammootty's previous venture Rajamanikyam, which collected around four crores from the three metro cities only.
Reports from Thiruvananthapuram shows that New theatre has grossed Rs. 2, 97,466 in four days and Kairali grossed Rs 2, 71, 370 in the first two days of its release. The film has made a fantastic opening in smaller stations like Nedumangad, Vetturoad, and North Paravoor as well.
From 33 shows in the capital city, the movie yielded around 11 lakhs, the best-ever for a Malayalam film in half a week. Smaller centres like Kondotty, Alappuzha, Manjery, Attingal, Changanaseery and Vadakara have made surprising initial collections in these days. Interestingly, Annan Thampi has been shown six times daily in many centres at North Malabar.
Even if the Anwar Rasheed film carries mixed reports, it proves that the success of any movie depends on the fact that any big film should be released in the maximum number of screens possible, since the B & C theatres are bringing in additional audiences to theatres. In this case, the collection is much faster than with limited releases.
