Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar was born on 9 September 1967 in Amritsar, Punjab to a Punjabi family.He was born as Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia. His father was a government employee. From childhood, he was recognized as a dancer.His family moved to Mumbai.He studied at Don Bosco School and then Guru Nanak Khalsa College , where he participated in sports.He studied martial arts in Bangkok and worked as a chef.Then he came back to Mumbai, there he started teaching martial arts.As per one of his students suggestion, he tried his hand at modeling, which led to an offer to appear in film Deedar as the lead actor.This was an opening to Bollywood industry.He married Twinkle Khanna, the daughter of actors Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, and their son is Aarav.
He made his Bollywood acting debut with the film Saugandh in 1991, which was followed by the 1992 thriller film Khiladi. In 1994, his action films Main Khiladi Tu Anari and Mohra which were among the highest grossing films of the year.In the same year, he did a romantic film Yeh Dillagi which was also a success, then he also did Suhaag and an action film Elaan.Both were successful at the box office.In 1995 he appeared in Sabse Bada Khiladi, which was a hit. He proved to have success with the Khiladi series.In the next year he starred in Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi opposite Rekha and Raveena Tandon. The film became one of the highest grossing films of the year.In 1997, he made a special appearance in Dil To Pagal Hai.Unlike his other Khiladi series,his next film Mr and Mrs Khiladi, failed at the box office.In 1999, he was seen in Sangharsh and Jaanwar.In 2000, he had two big hits Hera Pheri and Dhadkan.In 2001,he played a negative role in the film Ajnabee, and played as a blind man in Aankhen.In 2002,he starred in Awara Paagal Deewana, Aitraaz, Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya, and Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani .All these were average hit at the box office.He proved his talents in action, comedy and romantic roles.
In 2003 he appeared in Talaash: The Hunt Begins... and Andaaz. The next year he had many films which include Khakee, Aan: Men at Work, Meri Biwi Ka Jawaab Nahin, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Hatya: The Murder, Aitraaz, Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo. In 2005, he handled different roles, such as Insan, Bewafaa, Waqt: The Race Against Time,Garam Masala, Deewane Huye Paagal and Dosti: Friends Forever.
In 2006 he starred in second series of Hera Pheri titled Phir Hera Pheri, the film became a huge success at the box office. Then starred alongside Salman Khan in the romantic musical Jaan-E-Mann, the film did not do well at the box office. Later that year he had a comedy film Bhagam Bhag, which was a success. In 2007, he had four releases, namely Namastey London, Heyy Babyy, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Welcome. All these were succeed at the box office.
His first movie in 2008 was Tashan, which was a critical and commercial failure. His second film, Singh Is Kinng was a huge hit at the box office. His next film was the animated film Jumbo. In 2009, he featured opposite Deepika Padukone in Chandni Chowk to China, the film was a critical and commercial failure at the box office.His next release was 8 x 10 Tasveer. Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor,which was also a failure. His next releases were Kambakkht Ishq and Priyadarshan's De Dana Dan.
In 2010 he starred in comedy film House Full, directed by Sajid Khan which was successful. His next release was Khatta Meetha, directed by Priyadarshan and then Vipul Shah's Action Replayy, both were average grosser of the year.He won the Filmfare Best Villain Award for his movie Ajnabee, and Filmfare Best Comedian Award for Garam Masala.
