Samyukta's first film proved a runaway success, elevating her as a bright star into the firmament of Malayalam movie world, along with Divya Unni. In a sense, Samyukta's initiation into movies was similar to that of Manju, who retired when she was at the zenith of her profession, after marrying her first hero and lover Dileep. Manju's rise to the top ranks of the Malayalam star list was abrupt after the phenomenal success of Sallapam. That was a movie where the heroine carried a lot of weight. Samyukta's Bhavana in the Anthikkad film was equally strong: As the image of an intelligent, responsible and poor girl fated to roam the streets as a door-to-door promo agent, Bhavana was tailor-made for Manju. With Veettukaryangal, Samyukta was catapulted into a busy movie life and stardom. And Samyukta respects Manju. "She is a great artist. I am yet to prove myself. So there is no comparison," the girl from Thrissur offers humbly.
The success of Veettukaryangal prompted veteran director Joshi, the maker of blockbusters like Patram, to sign Samyukta for his multi-starrer, big-budget Vazhunnor in a role totally different from the one in Veettukaryangal. If the character in the Anthikkad film was that of a consistent and matured girl, in Vazhunnor her role was that of a petted, happy-go-lucky, modern girl who likes high heels and tight jeans. The brilliant performance she gave in this role established her versatility. Samyukta now has three good projects on hand: Chandran Udikkunna Dikkil (Lal Jose), Angane Oru Avadhikkalathu (Mohan), and Mazha (Lenin Rajendran) She had never dreamt of entering the dream business, though film world is not alien to her family.
A niece of actress Urmila Unni, Samyukta has been practising dance for the last 14 years. But she had never wanted to compete or act. "Cheriyamma (aunt Urmila), my dance guru, does not like my participating in competitions." But she is now in and so has to take competition seriously. It does not mean she must go after directors and producers seeking chances, she says. At least she does not want to do that. But she is not arrogant either. She is well aware that it will be wrong to forget one's past in the hallucinatory glow of fame and glamour. And she is frank about herself.
