Genelia D’souza born on 5th August, 1987 in a Manglorean Catholic family. She went to Apostolic Carmel High School in Mumbai after which she completed her management studies from St. Andrews College, Bandra. Genelia has also been a state level athlete and a national level soccer player.
She embarked on her career in films with bollywood film Tujhe Meri Kasam. Genelia has extensively worked in Tollywood films. She made her first mark with ad commercials like that of Parker and Fair and Lovely. Subsequently, she was offered a leading role in the movie ‘Boys’ by Tamil movie director Shankar. This film went on to become quite a hit. She has given many super hit performances in Telugu films such as Satyam, Samba, Sye and others. Her role in another film Bommarillu fetched her Telugu Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Her first film in Kannada, ‘Satya in Love’ crossed the mark of 4 crores in the first week thus setting new benchmarks for the Kannada film industry.
Genelia made a comeback in bollywood with the film Mere Baap Pehle Aap which did satisfactorily at the box office. Her major step forward was with the movie Jaana Tu Ya Jaane Na in 2008 alongside Aamir Khan’s nephew Imran Khan. Her role was very well received by the audience and the movie did fantastically along the length and breadth of India as also abroad.
She was signed as the new ambassador of Fanta drink post the contract with leading actress Rani Mukherjee. In the coming year she looks forward to a number of movies like ‘It’s my Life’ which is a remake of Bommarillu, Life Partner alongside Govinda, David Dhawan’s Hook Ya Crook and a Telugu movie Sasirekha Parinayam which is said to be based on Jab We Met.
