VarnakaazhchakalCast: Dileep, Jagathy, Poornima Mohan Language: Malayalam Director: Sunder Das Producer: K.C Jose Camera: Ramachandra Babu Lyrics: Yousuf Ali Kechery Music: Mohan Sithara Year: 2000
Varnakaazchakal, is the story of Kunju (Dileep), a young man who is looked upon by all as a mad fellow only because he had once suffered a bout of mental imbalance following the tragic end of his romance with Malavika, his college sweetheart. The plot unfolds the story of Sudhakara Menon’s business and the fraud committed by his partner to ultimately take over the tile factory owned by him and Kunju. Kunju’s budding new love with Sreedevi alias Cheeru (Poornima Mohan), who belongs to a lower caste, his attachment to his family which includes his brother Sudhakara Menon, his innocence and goodness, are all narrated as a subtext with a touch of simplicity that surprisingly lacks an overdose of sentiments.
Dileep essays the role of Kunju with characteristic finesse. He appears as fresh as he was in one of his first hits Sallaapam. Poornima Mohan as Cheeru has done a really commendable job. N F Verghese as Sudhakara Menon and Jagathy as Kaimal, Kunju’s companion, have also done full justice to their respective roles. KPAC Lalitha is her usual self as the mother of Kunju and Sudhakara Menon.
