In an age when the common man is rather insensitive to the real issues concerning breach of law and injustice, Vakkaalaththu Narayanankutty gives scope for introspection and provides food for thought. But the maker of films like Chaanakyan, Pavithram, Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu and the National -award winning Jalamarmaram has opted to deal with the issue in a lighter vein.

Narayanankutty, who aspires to become a lawyer ends up being a clerk in a govt. office. His father, a lawyer's clerk himself, too wants his son to be a lawyer. Though Narayanankutty does not become a lawyer, goes a step further. He makes it a habit to file a Public-Interest Litigation whenever he sees a law being broken by anybody. Thus he is known all over as 'Vakkaalaththu Narayanankutty' and breakers of law considers his name as one to reckon with. Narayanankutty reaches the secretariat on deputation.

And once in the capital, he goes on with his work. With him is friend Advocate Mathew Neruparambil, who never makes it big in life on account of being afraid of the Police.But Narayanankutty helps him get rid of the fear and James starts shining as an advocate. But then certain things happen, Narayanankutty becomes a sore in the eye to certain people and certain undesirable things happen. He is even framed in a rape case. But Narayanankutty doesn't lose his faith in law and justice and goes on fighting the wrongdoers.

Jayaram does a good job as Narayanankutty while Mukesh too fits in the bill as Mathew Neruparambil. Jagathy Sreekumar puts in a really appreciable performance as Iswara Subrahmanya Iyer, while Manya, who was introduced in Joker is okay as Kukkoo Kurien, the heroine.Ganeshan as the autorikshaw-driver Reghu, P.Sreekumar as minister Shashidhara Kurup, Rajan.P.Dev as DGP Kurien Kalapurayil have done their respective parts well.
