Sathyaraj and Goundamani were one of the most popular hero- comedian pair in rural Tamilnadu during late 80's-early 90's. They had terrific comedy timing in their one-man upmanship battle on screen, in films set in the rural milieu. Now after a long break the pair is back with G.Kitcha's Thangam, which brings a smile back on your face!

The story is as old as the hills, presentation in mass masala format that works in B & C centers. Kicha makes no bones about it that he is playing to the galleries and uses the tested formula that was a winning factor in the 80's - Annan-Thankachi Pasum (brother-sister sentiments), comedy and action.

A lot of fun is poked at Kollywood’s larger than life heroes, which has the audiences in splits. Goundamani's character in the film egged on by Sathyaraj, rips to shreds the superstar, heroes who mouth punchline dialogues at the drop of a hat ( "Did Mahtma Gandhi deliver punchlines to express his feelings?), heroes who marry in all pomp and glory and divorce in three months, stars in Kollywood launching political parties etc!

Thangam (Sathyaraj), is a rich feudal landlord with a fun-loving uncle Kaalai (Goundamani), by his side. Thangam showers all his love and affection on his sister Bagyalakshmi (Jayashree). Soon he meets Meenakshi (Megha Nair) and love blossoms into marriage. The bad guys led by Arusamy (Shanmugarajan) rapes Thangam's sister and he is forced to give her in marriage to him and also later has to go to prison to save her marriage!. He returns from jail only to see his sister killed by Arusamy and his men and vows to take the baddies by using tact and wins the battle!

It is old fashioned entertainment, but thanks to Goundamani, the scene stealer and Sathyaraj it is quite enjoyable. If you have nothing else to do and want to go on a joyride without any logic or reason try out Thangam!
