Mammootty continues his winning streak with Rajamanikyam released over the weekend. The latest offering from Valiyaveettil Movie International is directed by debutant Anwar Rasheed and produced by Siraj Valiyaveettil. The film is running to packed houses in all the centers. Industry grapevine predicts the film will make the best initial collection record for the year. After Thaskaraveeran, this is the first Mammootty starrer with high comic content for the lead role, and he does it with great style. His dialogue delivery and intonation put even the best mimicry artists to shame.
Rajamanikyam tells the story of Bellary Raja who is disowned by his own mother to facilitate her marriage to another man. Raja is a loner, thirsting for love and affection. After long years the step-father himself, recalls Raja to settle disputes between his own wards for property shares. The step father (played by Saikumar), is framed, jailed and murdered. He leaves a will, which makes Raja the care taker of the properties that are to be returned to their actual heirs in course of time. How he manages the properties and resolves the murder mysteries makes content of this hilarious movie.
Rajamanikyam is the maiden directorial offering from Anwar Rasheed who has been associate to a handful of leading Malayalam directors. The movie has fast and peppy numbers penned by Gireesh Puthenchery, put to music by Alex Paul. The star cast includes, Mammootty, Rehman, Manoj K Jayan, Cochin Haneefa, Salim Kumar, Bhiman Raghu, Sindhu Menon and Padma Priya. The story and screenplay are by T.A. Shahid, whose last offering was Ben Johnson. Sanjeev Shankar cranks the camera well, brilliantly capturing the essence of Pollachi. The film contains an ample dose of humour, sentiments, action and songs, and stellar performances by the lead artists, making it worth one's time and money.
