Raakshasa Raajavu
Cast: Mammootty, Dileep, Kalabhavan Mani, Meena, Kavya Madhavan Language: Malayalam Banner: Sargam Speed Productions Director: Vinayan Producer: Sargam Kabeer Story: Vinayan Screenplay: Vinayan Lyrics: S.Rameshan Nair Music: Mohan Sithara Distribution: Sargam Speed Release Year: 2001
Ramanathan, IPS (Mammotty) is a police officer with a difference. Murder of his wife makes him take law into his hands as he gets no support from the various people he meets in this regard. He brings to justice the wrong doer's even though he accepts bribes. He follows the policy of 'Kayamkulam Kochunni' a renowned real life robber. Taking from the rich and giving it to the poor. He also funds to run an orphanage for the mentally retarded children.
The first half of the film moves fast. A massacre filled with suspense holds the audience spell bound. The film is so directed that it also not give a clue on the killer. A side story, the love between Appu (Dileep) and Kavya Madhavan gives some relaxation to the tense situation.
Comic relief comes from Dileep, Asokan and Indrans. Stunt in the film goes a little beyond reality. The success of this film with a political theme may give rise to the revival of such films of the early 90's.
Captain Raju as a DGP, Janardhanan as a Chief Minister, Kalabavan Mani as a Minister have done justice to their roles. Songs by Vinayan and S. Rameshan Nair and music by Mohan Sithara has made the songs in the film a success.
