Recently, a rain sequence was shot. Meera Jasmine dressed in a burqa stands in front of a house along with Mala Aravindan and Mamookoya with umbrellas in their hands. The scene begins when the director says action and was completed with many retakes. The heavy showers were taken in a realistic manner.

Perumazhakalam is the story of two women, Raziya, who lives on the shores of the Kallayi River and Ganga, who resides on the shores of the Kalpathi River.

Though the two women live in entirely different background, they have a common reason for their agony. A tragedy occurs in their lives and it affects both the families in different ways. The story unfolds with the rain in the background, director Kamal says.

Kavya Madhavan and Meera Jasmine play Ganga, a Brahmin and Raziya, a Muslim in the film. Dilip plays Akbar, Raziya's husband and Vineeth plays Raghuraman, Ganga's husband. Both are employed in the Gulf.

Kavya Madhavan is for the first time acting with Meera Jasmine. The two have become close friends. When asked, Meera said, "I've acted in Kamal's film Gramophone with Navya Nair and in Swapnakoodu with Bhavana and this time with Kavya Madhavan.

Both Raziya and Kavya have a kid each and wait for their husband's return from the Gulf. After this film, Kavya will be acting in Priyanandan's film.

In the previous edition of Vellinakshatram, actor Prithviraj had stated that he was to do Dilip's role. When asked, director Kamal said, "I thought of casting him as one of the heroes but had not committed anything. I was so happy when Dilip came forward to do this guest role."

"Even though the character is too short, his role in the film is crucial. It needs an actor who can make his presence felt in the minds of the audience, even when he is not around, says Kamal. Biju Menon too plays an important role in the film.
