Paramasivan
Cast: Ajith, Laila, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Vivek, Iswarya, Nasser, Seetha Language: Tamil Banner: Samrat Film Corporation Director: P.Vasu Producer: S. Ramesh Babu Camera: Sekhar V.Joseph Music: Vidyasagar Year: 2006
Paramasivan has Ajith, lean, mean, active, and in a new avatar. He has shed flab and years for this role; so he naturally looks younger, fitter, and has performed the daring action stunts without any body double. His fights are one of the USPs of the movie, and a real treat for his fans, who have not seen him in a new release for long.
Paramasivan is another name for Lord Siva, the lord with a third eye; when the eye opens, it is in anger, and burns up the person or thing on which it is focused.
Subramania Siva (Ajith) is in jail, awaiting the death sentence for killing corrupt and evil members of the police force who had killed his father and sister. SP of Police, ‘Nethiadi’ Nandakumar (Prakash Raj) is an honest, fearless and upright police officer who has been given the mission to flush out the terrorist outfit behind the Coimbatore blasts. He decides to employ unconventional methods to fulfill his mission and engages Siva to assist him, renaming himParamasivan, and giving him a single point agenda – trace out and erase the persons responsible for the Coimbatore blasts.
Yes, it is a familiar story, with shades of Sholay, Adi and other later movies including Mahesh Bhatt’s Sanjay Dutt-Jackie Shroff starrer Kartoos (1999). Yes, similar plots and similar roles have been played by many heroes before this. The fly in the ointment is played by Nair (Jayaram), a CBI offcer, who is out to trace Paramasivan and stop his unlawful activities. His assistant Agniputran is played by Vivek, who provides lighter moments. How Paramasivan finishes the villains and finishes his job forms the rest of the story.
Ajith is in full form; as already stated, he looks younger, fitter, and better; his fighting and action sequences are superb and acting is also good. The romantic flavour is provided by Laila, who is underutilized, and gives her best to the limited role given in the script. Prakash Raj, as the policeman who is willing to cut corners to get his mission accomplished, is his usual polished self. Jayaraman, the CBI officer, has a very limited role, and the script demands his defeat. His assistant Vivek, fares better, since he provides laughs. An item song is thoughtfully provided for front benchers, in which Rahasya reveals her talents.
Vidyasagar’s music maintains his usual standards; his mixed beats and genres should be popular. Sekhar V.Joseph’s camera is eye catching and worthy of mention, especially in the action sequences and the Ooty Locales. Director P. Vasu has taken a time-tested story and added action scenes and sequences tailor-made for Ajith’s character.
The movie is a treat for Ajith fans
