Sarath Kumar is Durairaj a tough beedi smoking silent lorry driver. His companion is Jayaram, a talkative guy who is married to Meena and has a girl who stays with his mother Vadivukarasi. Jayaram gets run over by a bus on his way back to see his wife. Sarath brings the body to Meena's village. He stays back for the funeral rites to be over.

In the meanwhile he gets on the wrong side of Vijayan and his wastrel son Mansoor who usurp land by putting villagers in a debt trap. Sarath redeems the mortgaged land of Jayaram and starts to build a house, which his friend always dreamed off. Ramya runs a teashop and keeps lusting men away with her foul words and a sickle in hand. At first Sarath and Ramya clash but as both see each in a new light it turns into love. Vijayan tries every trick in the book to drive away Sarath but it fails. Finally Vijayan brings in goondas and demolish the house of Meena. Sarath bursts out like a volcano and brings Vijayan to task. Ramya too gets involved in the fight and she chops the hand of Mansoor. Both of them go to jail. Meena takes up the running of the teashop and the house gets build. Ravikumar has put in lot of characters, which are realistic. The barber Ramesh Khanna, the petty thief Chitty Babu, the provision shop servant and the few regulars at the teashop are ones that are found in many villages.

The relationship between Sarath and the lorry driver (Vinu Chakravarthy), the love- hate relationship with Ramya, the sisterly affection to Meena which even Jayaram's mother misinterprets are well etched and makes the movie a must to watch. Sarath’s well-built physique, blood shot eyes, cool temperament and his carrying out in the emotional scenes especially in the scene where he hears about his lorry owner's death is a treat to watch. A career best performance from Sarath. Needless to say Meena and Ramya score with good performances. Sriram's cinematography is very slick. Sabesh- Murali’s music sounds like Deva's.
