M.Kumaran S/O MahalakshmiCast: Ravi, Nadhiya, Asin, Prakash Raj, Vivek Language: Tamil Banner: Jeyam Company Director: M Raja Story: M Raja Screenplay: M Raja Music: Deva Year: 2004
Editor Mohan who earlier the successful movie Jeyam , a remake of Telugu Jeyam has come out with yet another family drama M Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi. , once again a remake of Telugu hit Amma Naana O Tamil Ammayi and again his sons Ravi and Raja being the hero and director respectively.
Kumaran(Ravi) , a college student shares a special bondage with his mother Mahalakshmi (Nadhiya) and they treat each other as friends. Mahalakshmi a lecturer in a college is separated from her husband Eshwar (Prakash Raj). Kumaran is passionate about kickboxing and Maha also encourages him in the profession he chooses. In the mean time Kumaran falls for a Malayali girl (Asin) whom he calls Malabar. Maha is a heart patient and one day she collapses in the college. While in the death bed she pleads Kumaran to go and stay with his father Eshwar who lives in Malaysia and a boxer who has won National championship six times.
Kumaran who has been brought by his mother all along hates his father but goes to Malaysia because of the promise he made to his mom. He sees him a happily married man with a grown up daughter. He subsides a little and takes up a job in his father's academy as a helper without revealing that he knows kick boxing. Eshwar has immense faith in one of his students and train him for the next National championship. But a rogue by nature , the guy not only molests Kumaran's sister but also joins the rival gang for the final fight. When Eshwar come sto know about Kumaran's talents in kick boxing he trains him against his unfaithful student and the rest of the story is how he finally wins over the game as well as the hearts of all in Malaysia.
Raja has given a film with 80% sentiment and 20% action to attract the womwn audience. As far has Ravi is concerned he has given a wonderful performance. He has emoted the right way be it the easy going happy days with his mom, as a kick boxer in action scenes and the crying kid when his mother dies. It is Nadhiya in her second innings who steals the show through out the first half. Every bit of her acting is a treat to watch. Hats off Nadhiya! Asin is petite and beautiful. Not much scope for acting. Prakash Raj makes use of his cameo appearance to the hilt. Vivek's comedy is the rehash of his earlier films. The mother – son relationship is well brought out by the director. The film drags a little in the second half. Srikanth Deva's music is just ok. A film to woo women audience.
