KudiyarasuCast: Vigneshwaran,Suguna,Tharika,Sethuvinayakam Language: Tamil Banner: Samurai Pictures Director: Shabir Hussain Producer: E.L.Sathyanarayana,K.Suresh Kanna Music: Kaarthik Raja Year: 2009
Kudiyarasu portrays the efforts and travails of a dedicated journalist who tries to expose the fraudulent activities of a powerful minister. The whole film talks about his experiences during a single day.
Daring investigative journalist Kannan (Vigneshwaran) works for a leading mainstream daily named Kudiyarasu. Straightforward, dedicated and good-natured, Kannan is passionate about his job. By chance, he gets a tip that gives enough clues to prove a powerful minister's (Sethuvinayakam) misdeeds that could develop into a great and juicy scandal and result in the minister's downfall. Deciding to expose him, Kannan starts collecting evidence for his article. Through some of his effective contacts and influence, the minister (predictably) comes to know about Kannan's involvement in the issue and begins to harass him to force his silence. However, he is extra- smart and extra-strong, Kannan fights against the rowdy attacks and all other hindrances - and vanquishes them. But the CD which contains the evidence against the minister gets misplaced and falls into the hands of a young girl (Neeba). The rowdies find the girl, seize the evidence from her and make her a scapegoat.
Meanwhile, though Kannan's dutifulness and his steadfast passion towards his job keeps him completely occupied, Kannan silently mourns for his love failure with Radha (Suguna), daughter of rich industrialist Rajasekar's (Nizhalgal Ravi). Though Kannan and Radha were college-mates and had taken an instant liking towards each other, Rohit, an MBA who saved Radha's life from a bunch of goondas won her hand in marriage. Torn between failure in love and a challenging duty that plants him in a sea of danger, does Kannan succeed in his mission? Kudiyarasu leads to an action-filled climax which reveals whether or not Kannan reveals the scam and if he overcomes his feeling of loss over Radha.
Being a trained kick-boxer, director Shabir Hussain has tried to include as many thrilling stunt sequences as possible throughout the movie. In addition, he also plays a small role as a cop and proves his mettle in the martial arts. Hero Vigneshwaran has done his best. His looks, daring stunts and romance are just perfect for his role. In fact, Vigneshwaran is one actor whose talent has not yet been recognized by the public. Heroine Suguna, a popular TV compere, has also done her job fittingly well. Nizhalgal Ravi, Sethuvinayakam and the rest of the supporting actors have made the film a wholesome fare.
Karthik Raja's music is subtle and comprises many sweet-sounding classical tunes. In this age of romance- and violence-filled films, Kudiyarasu indeed stands out as a good film with great kick -boxing skills displayed.
