Kilichundan Mampazham tells the story of some very interesting happenings that take place in the village of Koonthaalikadavu. The story begins from where Moithutty Haji returns home after marrying a third time. His new wife Amina is young and beautiful. His other two wives Fathima and Maimoona are not happy about this. Anyhow, they accept the situation. In the meantime, Abdu and his friend Usman reach the village and go to Moithutty Haji’s house to sell wood. Abdu watches Amina secretly and Moithutty sees this and drives them away. Abdu and Usman return again under the pretext of selling bangles, dates etc. But every time Moithutty Haji drives them away as he finds them as a nuisance. In the meantime, Amina doesn’t even let Moithutty touch her and manages this by making some excuse or other. In fact Abdu and Amina had been in love and Amina’s marriage had been performed without her consent, when Abdu was away, in the Gulf. And now Abdu has come to take Amina away, by hook or by crook. And when Kalanthan Haji learns the truth from Abdu, he decides to help him. He has his own grudge against Moithutty Haji and he also feels that Abdu has every right to do what he is doing. So, Abdu makes his moves secretly against Moithutty Haji, assisted by Kalandan Haji and Usman. What happens following this forms the plot of Kilichundan Mampazham.
Mohanlal plays the role of Abdu perfectly well, with Sreenivasan rendering able support with an equally good performance as Moithutty Haji. Soundarya looks great and does good work as Amina. Cochin Haneefa as Kalandan Haji, Thilakan as Amina’s father Chekutty, Jagathy Sreekumar as Irunthalakaadan Nampoothiri, Ganesh Kumar as Amina’s brother Ummer and Salim Kumar as Usman have done their roles in their characteristic styles. Seema has given a very good performance as Zubeida, Abdu’s elder sister. Art-director Sabu Cyril and cinematographer S Ravi Verman have rendered able support to director Priyan to make each frame seem appealing. This is very much evident in the song and dance sequences, which have always been the highlights of Priyadarshan films. Priyadarshan, who has done the script based on story by Priyadarshan, has taken care to bring in the typical muslim dialect of Northern Kerala. Of the songs penned by BR Prasad and set to tune by Vidyasagar, “Onnam kili ...” has become quite popular and has been visualised too in a very good manner. The song “Kasavinte thattamittu ...” (which has been sung by actor Sreenivasan’s son Vineeth) are also fairly good. Seems producer Antony Perumbavoor will have in Kilichundan Mampazham a big hit because the film, which is a good entertainer, would be accepted by family audience, especially since it is summer vacations for kids.
