The story is that of a rich medical student, Kannamma - played by Meena - who falls in love with Anandan (Premkumar) after he saves her from an acid attack by her driver, Babu (Karate Raja).
Anandan's friend Madan (Venkat) becomes Kannamma's ever-vigilant sentinel, risking his own marriage with Mala (Vindhya).
Kannamma marks the return of DMK chief Karunanidhi to the tinsel world after a decade-long hibernation. He has written the story and screenplay of the film.
The story is that of a rich medical student, Kannamma ( Meena) who falls in love with Anandan (Premkumar), a co-student after he saves her from an acid attack by her driver, Babu (Karate Raja). Madan( Venkat) lives in a rural place Kazhanipuram with his mother Kuyilamma (Kuyili). Anandan and Madan are childhood friends and later when Anandan becomes an orphan it is Madan who lends a helping hand and sends him to Chennai to study medicine.
Anandan marries Kannamma and Madan marries Mala (Vindhya), his uncle’s daughter . Kannamma loses her husband Anandan in the Kargil War. Hearing this news Kannamma becomes mentally deranged. . Madan becomes Kannamma's guard, risking his own marriage with Mala (Vindhya). She finds herself being accused of an affair with her husband's best friend Madan by his wife Mala and her father and Panchayath President Bala Singh. Her baby is disputed and she is brought before a village panchayath. How Kannamma wins all odds and emerges victoriously forms the rest of the story.
Meena makes an attempt to shoulders the burden of taking the movie through. Vindhiya is trying to provide some oomph especially in an item-number. The two heroes ‘Metti Oli’ Bose and Prem Kumar of ‘Annamalai’ serial are average. But amateur direction by S.S. Baba Vikram and a shoddy editing by Vikram Raja reduce the film to mere docu-drama.
Though Kargil conflict forms the backdrop of the film, there is hardly any focused link to the surprisingly the film has no references to current political issues, too. There are too many references to the Sun TV news of the Kargil war, the camera returning repeatedly to shots of Karunanidhi and Murasoli Maran handing aid to Kargil victims. These scenes sorely test the viewer's patience. Hardly there are any powerful or punching dialogues, otherwise expected out of MK’s movie.
Ironically pictures of Congress leaders - from Jawarharlal Nehru to current PM Manmohan Singh – is shown in a couple scenes in the backdrop.(the story still happens during Kargil times)
