 Directed by Priyadarshan, this tri-lingual had Mohanlal and Prabhu in the lead roles. A doctor (Mohanlal) is sent to prison in the cellular jails of Andaman Islands for treason. There he befriends Mukundan (Prabhu), another cellmate. When Mukundan plans to escape from jail, the doctor dissuades him from doing so. As a punishment for his acts, Mukundan is apprehended and beaten to death by the evil-minded jailor Mirza Khan (Amrish Puri). Due to his good deeds, the British officer decides to release doctor but the jailor has other ideas. Whether the doctor goes back to his ladylove (Tabu) in the mainland forms the rest of the story.
