Another comedian, Karnas turns hero with this film which is said to be a remake of the Malayalalam Sreenivasan classic Vadakkunokki Yanthram (1989). But the Sivasanmukan directed Tamil version is no patch on the original.

They have changed the basic frame of the story and reworked it to suit the taste of the so called Tamil audiences (like what they did to Kuselan), added atleast two item numbers and more steamy sentiments.

Still it works to a certain extent because it is far more realistic than the recent crop of mindless masala. It talks about a man who has a chip on his shoulders, as he is short, dark and ugly. He has a king size inferiority complex due to this and the story is woven around it.

Sarathy (Karnas) has a terrible inferiority complex from his childhood as he is dark, short and lacks confidence. He runs a successful printing press in Dindigal and lives with his dominating mother (Saranya) and a sister. Many of the marriage proposals that came his way, has ended with rejection from the brides side as they found him too ugly!

Finally he gets married to a beautiful, fair skinned Gayathri (Karthika), and his trouble starts. Due to his inferiority complex, he starts suspecting every move of her’s. If a handsome guy from the neighbourhood comes anywhere near his house, he becomes hyper. When his brother from Mumbai comes to stay with him, he suspects that he is making a pass at his wife!

All this leads to hilarious situations like Sarathy suspecting his wife's favourite actor 'ultimate star' Ajit to be in his house, just because a SUV parked outside his house has a poster of the "Thalai'! Sarathy spying on his wife while pretending to be away leads to a piquant situation. As his mind starts playing games, he makes all those who love him hate him.

The music of Dhina and unnecessary songs and item girl's like Flora is jarring. Karunas is apt as Sarathy and does his role efficiently. Saranya as the mother is in top form, while Karthika as the wife has come out with a knockout performance. M.S Bhaskar as the poet uncle, friend, philosopher and guide of the hero, creating more trouble for Sarathy is hilarious.

The subject is bold for a Tamil film, but the treatment is pure masala commercial, which has left neither the class nor the mass audiences happy and falls between two stools On the whole it is just ok, though the second half tends to drag a bit.
