Writer-Director Varun Khanna’s ‘Bad Luck Govind’ is a flop show right from the start. The film is terribly executed with glaring loopholes in the plot. Although, the film could have been made better but it faltered as the screenplay has just been reduced into a one-dimensional gang-war track. The result is - the film tests the patience of the audience and verdict on the fate of the film is unfavourable.
Govind, played by Gaurav Kapur is the quintessential common man, hitherto played by Amol Palekar or most recently, Vinay Pathak or Ranvir Shorey to perfection but not delivered too well by Gaurav. As the name of the film rightly reflects, the story revolves Govind, who is badly down on luck. And not just that, he also happens to bring bad luck on people surrounding him.
Govind’s life gets totally ruined after an encounter with a news anchor (Archan Puran Singh), who pushes him into the midst of a funny situation where he is caught amongst underworld 'bhais' (Govind Namdev, Parmeet Sethi, Zakir Hussain, Vrajesh Hirjee, Lalit Mohan Tiwari and Ganesh Yadav) and a lovely nurse (Hrishita Bhatt). Gradually, Govind discovers the power of positive.
The theme may sound interesting but the treatment is highly amateurish. Loopholes in the plot - why doesn't Govind flee the chawl when he realizes that he's surrounded by wrong people and how does Govind Namdev know Hrishita’s father? Well, we will have to ask the filmmaker for that!
Newcomer Gaurav Kapur disappoints – playing a common man is no easy job. Hrishita Bhatt has clearly lost her charm. Except for Parmeet Sethi, other actors are wasted. The film is bad on music front and lacks technical finesse. Jokes are bland, pace of the film slow and editing poor.
Guess, loads of bad luck in store for the film. Better luck next time. One cheer!
