Ranjit has written the story and screenplay of Ammakili Koodu, a film directed by his long time associate Padmakumar. The story deals with the problems of three old women played by Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Sukumari and KPAC Lalitha in Karunalayam, an old age home. Ranjit has tried to dwell into the minds of women who lead a miserable life when they are neglected and unwanted in their own homes by their children.

Karunalayam is an old age home where old mothers like Marykutty teacher (Kaviyoor Ponnamma), Parvathy Amma (Sukumari), Saraswathi Amma (KPAC Lalitha) and others live. The property belongs to Eradi (Innocent) a rich businessman and he wants to evict the old women from there and demolish the building to make a shopping complex. He employs a shrewd guy Vivek (Pritviraj) to get the job done, but this hunk is bowled over by the love of all the mothers. He understands their loneliness and there he meets Akhila (Navya Nair) an aggressive young girl who is a regular visitor to the old age home. Her mother Janaki lives there fearing her sadistic husband.

The movie leaves one exasperated towards the end. The story resembles Mohanlal's old hit Vietnam Colony where he comes to a small colony to evict the residents but eventually becomes their savoir. But what makes Ammakilikoodu stand out is the performance of all the mothers in the Malayalam film industry like Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Sukumari, K P A C Lailitha, and others who are life like. Mukesh's mother Vijayalakshmi and his wife Saritha are coming together in this sentimental story with a twist in the climax.
