AchchaneyaanenikkishtamCast: Kalabhavan Mani, Master Ashwin, Biju Menon, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy Language: Malayalam Banner: Ravathy Kalamandir Director: Suresh Krishnan Producer: Menaka Suresh Kumar Lyrics: Gireesh Puthenchery Music: M.G Radhakrishnan Year: 2001
The film, Achchaneyaanenikkishtam, produced by Menaka under the banner of Revathy Kalamandir is a family entertainer. Whenever producer Suresh Kumar is not in a position to get a Mohanlal date, he makes small films with the current hot cake. This time he spins a story along with director Suresh Krishna using Kalabhavan Mani's image.
But the film is neither fish nor fowl. The film tells the story of a little boy Kunjunni (Ashwin Thampy) and his father Bhaskaran (Kalabhavan Mani), a lorry driver and widower, who has lots of dreams regarding Kunjunni's future. Bhaskaran's only aim in life is to give his son the best education possible. So he sells his lorry and house and reaches Ooty, where he tries to get his son admitted in a public school. But he is shocked that children with huge donations and high recommendation will only be given a seat.
Bhaskaran fakes that he is a gold merchant and gives Rs 2 lakhs as donation. With the help of his friend Nalinaakshan (Jagathy Sreekumar), a tourist guide cum vehicle agent, he impersonates as a rich businessman and gets his son admitted in a prestigious school. The entry of some other characters in the plot, especially Kunjunni's teacher Seeta (Lekshmi Gopalaswami) and the rich Anand (Biju Menon) and the incidents thereafter make for the climax of the film. Kunjunni, gradually acclimatises to the new environment and being the best student, he is adored by all the teachers. Anand (Biju Menon) is a rich man who is in love with Sita, but when she comes to know about his underworld connections, she breaks away. Anand becomes friendly with Kunjunni and he too slowly starts adoring him.
The new school and rich friends changes Kunjunni's attitude to Bhaskaran. He tells his friends that Anand is his daddy. And when Bhaskaran comes to know about the change in his son, he decides to take him away from the school, but Anand interferes and stops this. Anand breaks all his underworld connections and decides to lead a peaceful life with Sita, when he is attacked by goondas. How Bhaskaran helps Anand from them form the rest of the story.
Performance-wise, national award winner Master Ashwin Thampy does well as Kunjunni, and so does Kalabhavan Mani as Bhaskaran. Though the rest of the cast including Jagathy Sreekumar, Lakshmi Gopalaswami and Biju Menon have also played their roles well, the audience seems reluctant to come to the theatres, perhaps because they are used to seeing such small stories on the mini-screen. The entry of superstar Mohan Lal towards the end doesn't add to the appeal.
