Jayaraj's 4 The People aimed at the youth with all new star cast and music by Jassie Gift is making waves in the state.
The film is attracting repeat audience. The film made on a budget of 50 lakhs, has netted Rs 25 lakhs from 23 prints during the first week of its release. Though the storyline is wafer-thin, the narration is fast paced and the film is technically brilliant.
The film is set in a campus where students rebel against social injustice, corruption and politics. The story is told in a new narrative style with fast paced editing, innovative camera angles and peppy music to break the conventions of filmmaking.
The film is all about four brilliant engineering students--Arun, Bharat, Arjun and Padma Kumar who turn vigilante in their fight against corruption. They open a website and ask the public to mail them about their grievances and problems. They shortlist the person with maximum complaints and track him down and punish him by chopping their hands or fingers. Their target includes a corrupt doctor, a government sales tax officer and a local goonda.
The modus operandi is to wear black leather outfits with helmets and to travel in bikes for the operation. The group is known as For The People and they have the public support and they slowly become icons with the youth. The government is forced to curb the growth of such a group who according to them is a parallel law and order force. They entrusts the job of tracking down the group to Sunil the new city police commissioner, a smart guy who uses his common sense to unravel the culprits in the end.
The casts are all newcomers like Bharat (of Boys fame), Gopika, Arjun, Arun, Sravana, Sunil, Padma Kumar and Zacharia (Mammootty's youngest brother). Pranathi, the daughter of 80's lover boy Jose and Gopika, the heroine in Paranayamanithooval and Cheran's Tamil film Autograph are in the female lead.
