Aishwarya's brief encounter with Rekha

Even before Aishwarya Rai joined the film industry, she had a brief encounter with actress Rekha .

Aishwarya is currently the talk of tinsel town for her emphatic performance in J.P. Dutta�s latest movie Umrao Jaan . The role of the courtesan in the movie almost became synonymous with Rekha, who iconized the same part of Umrao Jaan in Muzaffar Ali�s movie in 1981.

Aishwarya, who now plays the same role that Rekha once did, says she shares a special connection with the senior actress.

And Ash still remembers to this day a brief encounter with Rekha in the days before she (Ash) began her acting career.

It happened at a store near the place where Ash was living.

�She (Rekha) stopped her car, came to me and said: 'You are mine and you are going to be here (film industry) for a long time,'� Ash is quoted as saying.

Ash says she has always had �great respect and admiration� for Rekha.

She calls it a beautiful coincidence that she has now got to play the role once immortalized by Rekha.

By the way, �Umrao Jaan� has opened to mixed reviews from film critics. However, Aishwarya�s performance in the film has been liked by many.
