Ram

One of the most prolific film producers in Kodambakkam is R B Chowdury of Super Good Films. His success formula is to produce films on a low budget and without taking money from any financier. Chowdury never ran after stars and instead created many. He gave opportunities to many debutant directors. Chowdury launched his son Jeeva as hero in Aasai Aasaiyai. It was an average movie. Once again Jeeva acted in Thitthikudhe produced under his home banner. This too did not set the box office on fire. Though many producers came forward to sign him Chowdury did not give the approval because he felt that till Jeeva was able to muster enough popularity to give a minimum guarantee to the producer it was not fair to accept any offers. Jeeva felt that his third film should be an action film since his earlier two films had him in lover boy role. It was around this time Amir associate of director Bala turned independent with Mounam Pesiyathe. The film had Surya and Trisha in the lead. The theme was offbeat. Surya played the no nonsense restaurant owner who has no time for romancing. Slowly he starts falling for Trisha and begins to believe that she loves him. In the climax he realises that he was living in a fools paradise. The film gave Surya the much-needed flip at the box office.

Amir took a long break before launching his second film Ram. Posters of Jeeva sporting a red tilak on his forehead and dressed like a sadhu were splashed in the city on the launch day. The whos who of Tamil cinema turned up to greet the director and hero. Amir says that the title is just kept for catching the attention of the public. Its a film about the relationship between the mother, the son and his girlfriend. The entire film will be shot in Munnar, Kodaikanal and Yercaud since the subject demands natural surroundings. Not one frame will be shot in Chennai, reveals Amir. Gajala who made her debut in Tamil with the film University plays the female lead. Rahman comes back in an important role. Malayalam actor Murali, Karunas, Malvika, Ramswami and Sakthi are the other artistes. Cinematography by Ramji and music by Yuvan Shankar Raja the film is produced under the banner of Teamwork Production House.
