Scriptwriter-turned-director B. Unnikrishnan's latest cop movie I.G. is exactly what you would normally expect from its lead actor Suresh Gopi! As anticipated, everything has already been seen before in so many movies in the same genre and even Suresh Gopi repeats himself for the umpteenth time in this run-of-the-mill action police story told in a rather crisp manner.
Produced by Mahi under the banner of Super films, the film revolves around Durgaprasad IPS (Suresh Gopi), a typical firebrand cop who happens to intercept people who are bringing in cash through hawala to fund terrorist activities. It is brought to the attention of the State Chief Minister (Rajan P. Dev) and as a promotion, Durgaprasad is posted as the head of the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS), determined to decimate every last bit of an extremist attack in the capital.
Durgaprasad chooses his aides (Vijayraghavan, Jagathy and Kiran Raj) and starts the hunt for the culprits behind the blast in Thiruvananthapuram Chalai Bazar, killing hundreds, including the State Home Secretary, Paul Joseph ( Sreeraman). Durgaprasad follows the trail of the terrorists, which leads him to the doorsteps of some of the most powerful people in the state, including ex-minister and prominent politician Beeran Kutty Sahib (Sai Kumar) and the City Police Commissioner Vijay Bhaskar. Meanwhile, Durgaprasad's younger brother (Govind Padmasurya) falls madly for a Muslim girl (Anitha Nair), who happens to be the only daughter of Beeran Kutty Sahib! All these lead to a great twist in the climax.
The main plus point in this Suresh Gopi starrer is the climax twist laced with sentiments and punch lines. Suresh Gopi does full justice to his role as Durgaprasad. Asheesh Vidyarthi, Sai Kumar, Subair, Devan and Rajan P. Dev have done their roles pretty well. However, Vijayaraghavan as Vakkachan is just average, not because of his performance, but his character doesn't offer much scope. The same is in the case with Jagathy Sreekumar as Damodaran Pillai, which also has nothing to do in the film.
At most the film is a time pass entertainer which is racy and briskly told though the story and situations are all ‘old wine in new bottle’.
