'Anandha Thandavam,' based on Sujatha's novel, 'Pirivom Sandhippom,' is a love story.

Ragupathi (Siddarth), an engineering graduate returns home. He shares a close bond with his father who has brought him up ever since his mother died during his birth. Raghu as he is fondly called is on the lookout for a job. At his hometown, he meets Madhumita the playful and naive daughter of the Chief Engineer of the neighborhood.

Raghu soon realizes he is in love with her. Madhumita's parents are impressed with him. And the two love birds are engaged. But Madhumita's parents change their mind when their friend's son, Radhakrishnan on a visit from the US asks for her hand. Madhumita is married to Radhakrishnan leaving Raghu devastated and he attempts suicide. But he is rescued. On his father's suggestion Raghu leaves for the US to pursue higher studies. Here he meets Rathna, a young Indian woman who falls for him. Incidentally Raghu also meets a happily wed Madhumita there. Does Raghu tie the knot with Rathna? And what about his old love, Madhumita?

Tamannah as the naughty Madhumita with a childlike innocence shows maturity in her acting from her 'Kalloori,' days. In her glamorous costumes, she looks a million bucks. Siddharth, a new comer plays his part well, though at certain times, his expressions are not always convincing. Rukmini playing second lead makes a mark. Her fresh looks coupled with the bubbly personality of her character lingers in the mind long after the film is over. She is an actor to watch out for. Good camera work especially the visuals shot in Thenkasi. A tad too long and the script sag in the second half.

While 'Ananda thandavam,' may not be a box office hit, like 'Chellamae' another film of Gandhi Krishna, it can pass as a time- pass flick...
